A holiday, in Football Manager, is when a human player lets the computer take control of his duties for a set period of time. When a manager is on holiday, his assistant manager/coach will take over as manager. Holiday mode can be useful for testing games, as you can set the manager to "On Holiday" and let the game progress through several seasons much more quickly than actually playing them.

There are lots of several options that you can set when going on holiday, such as how long are you going to be on holiday, whether to apply for jobs while you are on holiday, whether your assistant should keep using the current tactics and/or team selection and will you accept offers for your players.

In some Football Manager games, such as FM 2009, to prevent piracy, you can't go on holiday in pirated copies of the game.
